Works in progress…

16 May

I have quite a lot of works in progress at the moment, which has been impacting on my ability to blog about them.  Instead of staying silent until I had something to show you, I thought I would list some of the items, and explain a little bit more about them.

The ‘Paint-by-Number’ Dress

I got this from a pattern in a recent edition of Crochet Today. The dress is done all in one, with no seams to sew together, which has only reinforced my love of crochet even more! This is how much I’ve been able to do so far:

I have a few more rounds to go to add length (I’m following the instructions for a dress to fit a 2 year old) and I have sleeves and trims to do before it’s finished.

The Squares

I mentioned this in a previous blog post.  I’m not sure where I am going with this yet, but I have made 7 of the squares and plan to make as many as I can from a large bag of pink yarn I bought from eBay. It’s going to end up as some sort of blanket, but I’m not sure if I’m going to try and add some other colours into it as otherwise it won’t be very big.

The Mandala

I came across this pattern through Ravelry and the link to the blog post is here.  I plan to adapt it slightly to make it large enough to cover a table we have in our living room. I’m using up some of my yarn stash with this one, as I have so many scraps of colours and odd balls left. I hope Mr Farr-Jones likes it.

The Teddy Bear

Amigurumi rocks. I love making stuffed toys, and have decided I should really try and make more of them.

I came across a pattern for a vintage bear, and have now completed everything except for his face, and any embellishments I may want to add to make him extra cute.  Here he is, faceless:

The Mug Cosy

I feel like I’ve blogged a lot about these. Such a simple pattern, and I keep getting requests for them. I  have several on the go now, and have just posted some more to friends.

I have also just received the yarn needed to make a throw for a good friend who has just got married. I’ll be sure to tell you more about it when I have started it.

So, overall, I’ve been very busy! But I’m struggling with prioritising my WIPs which is probably why everything feels like it is taking a long time to do.

How many WIPs does everyone else have on the go right now?

Wow, that’s a lot of WIPs!
I’m working on a fair few myself: one big knitting project; one big knitting design project; one small knitting design project (almost finished!); one small crochet design project; plus numerous other design projects still in the potential planning stage. And, of course, there’s all the other patterns that I’m eyeing up but haven’t managed to buy the yarn for yet…
Yours are all looking great, I love it when they come close to finished and you get that little rush when they’re finally complete!
Good luck with the finishing touches

Wow, you sound a lot busier than me! I think all of my projects are small ones (except the blanket I haven’t started yet, which is supposed to be quite big, and I fear it may turn into another never ending one!)

I get so frustrated when I find so many things I want to make but I just don’t have the time to do it. I wish I could knit and crochet a lot faster!!

Going to finish the bear this weekend so will post a photo when it’s complete. Hopefully I’ll finish the dress by then too. x

I do like to be busy!
I seem to find something new every week that I’d love to make! Being on a budget means I have to be really selective but sometimes that’s a good thing, otherwise the house would be overflowing I think.
Good luck with the dress and the bear, definitely post some finished pics

Love the dress and it’s colours. The bear looks great – needs a cheeky face

im not very good with sewing faces which is why I think I’ve left him in the WIP pile.

I am so excited about the dress you wouldn’t believe! I have enjoyed every moment of it. I may make more!!

I love this dress. Have the mag and a daughter to crochet it for !whats the difficulty level?

    • Russell Farr-Jones May 17, 2012 at 8:40 pm #

Hi! I would say the pattern is an intermediate level. It is very confusing to read, unless you have some experience and understand that a LOT of shortcuts have been made in writing the pattern which you are just meant to ‘get’ without any notes to tell you. The actual pattern is easy once you get the hang of it though, it’s just written in what I found was a very confusing way.

It is by far the best item of clothing I have made for a girl though, so I would persevere!!

Love the bear. I can see his face in my imagination already.
How many WIPs? Oh, roughly about a dozen of various kinds, I think. Apart from my 50+ unfinished patchwork pieces (aka UFOs). And an endless list of ‘want to do’. Never a dull moment. :)

Glad I’m not the only one with an endless to-do list. There aren’t enough hours in the day!
